You're launching from the 350ft spot up the ski jump of HMS Prince of Wales on a cold, dark Arctic night. Poor weather. Minimal visual references. A moving ship disappearing into the blackness behind you as you climb into the cloud. Ahead lies the mission— RV with a tanker to take fuel in the darkness, before pressing north to execute the task alongside the rest of the NATO force package.

Hours later, the work isn't over. You still have to find the carrier, now miles away from where you launched, manage your fuel, time your recovery and bring her safely back to a flight deck that seems to be pitching and rolling beneath you in the darkness.
