The Black Cats

A nod to the origins of 207 Squadron — the Black Cats.

Formed as a specialist night-bomber squadron in 1916, 207 Squadron’s early crews flew night bombing missions over the Western Front. The squadron became known as the Black Cat Squadron, with black cats appearing on the noses of its Handley Page bombers — a fitting symbol for a unit operating in the darkness, and regarded as a good-luck mascot for night bombing crews.

Today, the Black Cat heritage is carried forward as part of 207 Squadron’s identity. This patch is worn on Fridays as a nod to that history, bringing a piece of the squadron’s early night-bomber heritage into the modern era.
